Help! WordPress has totally gone to the dogs

by Janie Jones

Okay, so I wanted to add a new blog to my links.

Sheri from Two Nervous Dogs is back in business.  A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away where Janie had a real life and wasn’t a spastic, exhausted, zombie-esque student, I used to read Sheri’s stuff.  Hers was one of the first blogs I got into reading; about the same time as I was reading Rachel Lucas, Look a Baby Wolf and Fetch My Flying Monkeys.  It was snarky. They were all snarky.  And quirky, and they defied social constraint.  It was (is) glorious.  One by one they slipped away into the blogosphere oblivion.  Well, I didn’t know what happened to Sheri, but Rachel got married, lived abroad, came back and vanished again.  Laura bought a house and lost George Clooney.  She’s probably in rehab.  Anyway, slowly their presences disappeared, all except LeAnn at Look A Baby Wolf.  She’s still doing her duty to the fans in glorious hyperbole.  So I just read there that Sheri is back.  Two Nervous Dogs is resurrected.  Zombie Two Nervous Dogs.  Crazy neighbors and an HOA.  Security Flood Lights of epic proportions.  Apparently so.

But I digress.  In my enthusiasm for a return to the pleasures of a birds eye view on the idiotic world Sheri must daily endure, I wanted to add her link to my blogroll links.

Thanks to this enforced new WordPress system, I no longer can figure out how, though.  And, I have a microbiology test today I MUST DO WELL ON or I will just have to crawl under a rock and die.  So I have no time to learn a new, more cryptic and less old people friendly WordPress.

So can any of you WordPressers tell me how to use this stupid new format to add to my blog links?

And, can you tell me what happened to the side bar that gives me options to click on my categories!!!!

I tell you, I just might have to go back to blogger.  At least I can find stuff there.

  1. Janie, aw thank you so much for the lovely rave and all. Dayum! Really made my day, you did. If I can help with the WP thing, gimme a shout in email and I’ll try. I don’t know much about this type of WP (I use the self-hosted version), but I can try. And also, they have forums and shit, if you get in the mood (read: desperate enough) to read or search. Lotsa HEPPFUH people there, sometimes. Yes, agreed, LeeAnn has been the glue holding it all together. Steady, constant. A light in the darkness. She is a RIOT, and a great writer, IMHO.

    • Not raving per se, just speaking the truth as I see it. It is good to have bloggers out there who say what’s on my mind but am too socially correct to say myself.

I used to know how to do simple HTML website design, and a while back I thought about going back to my own website, but things have *changed* in the last 15 years. CSS man. It’s a foreign beast to me. School and the pursuit of a string of letters to hang off my name eat up the lion’s share of my mental and physical energy these days, so I deal with WordPress and it’s creative limitations. For now. Thanks for the offer and the advice… One day I might take you up on it….

  2. Don’t go back to blogger! I can’t seem to comment there. But sorry | can’t help you, I changed my theme and now I can’t figure out how to put the different pages on. I have some, but others have just disappeared!?!

    • Oh noes! Don’t you hate it when you think you’re just going to make this one easy change and then suddenly, without explanation everything gets upended on you? Don’t worry though, I seriously doubt I’ll return to blogger. In any case I don’t think I have time or energy to do much of anything until the semester is out. Hope you find your lost pages!

  3. Sheri only says such nice things about me because I’m the secret microbe that lives in the back of her brain. I force her to say these things, or else I take control of her functions and make her sit next to hipsters in Starbux and make small talk.
As to you, Miss Jones, I say much thanks for including me in that list of mentions. I too have the self-hosted WP, but in it, I just click the left hand column “links” button and add whomever I lurve to the list.
And in case you wondered, you’re on my happy-to-read list bigtime.
